What an exciting time in the life of your family! We are looking forward to working together to prepare your child to receive their sacraments!
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are generally received in the 2nd grade. Students must have successfully completed 1st grade Religious Education and be actively participating in 2nd grade Religious Education. For older students, two consecutive years of Religious Education participation are required.
Parents are required to attend one parent and child meeting, one parent meeting and one family retreat with their child. Dates and times are available by clicking the link below.
Students are required to complete two home study books, attend one parent/child meeting and attend two Saturday morning retreats (one for each Sacrament). Children will be interviewed to assess their readiness for receiving First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
There is a First Reconciliation preparation fee of $30 and a First Eucharist preparation fee of $30 ($60 for both Sacraments) to cover the additional costs (workbooks, activity supplies, certificates, refreshments, etc). This is in addition to the regular Religious Education registration fee.
First Reconciliation Retreat November 10, 2018
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
All children and teens preparing for their First Reconciliation this fall are required to attend this retreat. Please make sure to bring your completed Reconciliation Workbook and your Service Project paper as these will be used during the retreat.
During the retreat each child will be interviewed by a catechist to hear what they have learned about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Parents who wish to practice with their child can use these practice questions:
- Do you know the Act of Contrition?
Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. And I detest all my sins because of your just punishment. But most of all because they offend you my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen
2. You don’t have to tell me what you did, but did you ever make a bad choice?
3. What does “reconciliation” mean in your own words.
4. Who forgives your sins?
5. Which is an accident and which is a wrong choice: bumping into a friend at school when walking down the hall or running through the hall at school and knocking others over?
6. Who gets hurt when you make a bad choice?
7. Do you go to church almost each weekend?
8. Do you want to celebrate this Sacrament?
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Friday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 1st at 10:00 a.m. Classes are assigned which time to attend. Please check your assigned time prior to attending.

Parents & Teens are required to attend a Confirmation meeting in May and September.
(This meeting is for those who will be confirmed during the current school year.)
Students in the final year of preparation are required to complete a Confirmation Journal book at home and attend a weekend-long Antioch retreat. In addition, students must complete a minimum of 25 service hours over 4 years.
Service Summary Sheets should be turned in to the ChrisTeen office as detailed below.
A Service Summary Sheet must be submitted at the end of 8th grade with a minimum of 10 service hours (at least 5 through activities/ministries at Transfiguration). These hours are for service done in the 7th and 8th grade years.
A Service Summary Sheet must be submitted at the end of 9th grade with a minimum of 10 new service hours (at least 5 through activities/ministries at Transfiguration).
A Service Summary Sheet must be submitted in the fall of 10th grade with a minimum of 5 new service hours (at least 2-1/2 through activities/ministries at Transfiguration). This Service Summary Sheet is included in the Confirmation Workbook.
New service hours must be completed each year. Students are highly encouraged to go beyond the minimum requirements, but extra hours do not count towards the next year’s service. Failure to meet the minimum requirements will delay the student’s Confirmation date.
Students will be interviewed to assess their readiness for receiving Confirmation.
There is a preparation/registration fee to cover the additional costs (workbooks, retreats, certificates, refreshments, etc). This is in addition to the regular Religious Education registration fee.
