Joyce and her family came to us from New Jersey where she was Director of Religious Education at St. Mark's Church in Long Valley, NJ. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Trenton State and an M.Ed. from the University of Delaware in College Counseling and Staff Personnel Administration. Joyce became Director of Youth Ministry in August 1996.
Sheila has been a member of Transfiguration since her childhood, and is a ChrisTeen alum. She became the Director of PEEP in the Spring of 2012. Prior to that, Sheila held the position of Youth Ministry Coordinator. Before joining the staff, she was a volunteer for ChrisTeen and served as the Chair of the Youth Ministry Board. Sheila believes firmly that the youth are the Church of today, not of tomorrow. She strives to provide ample opportunities for the youth of the parish to encounter Christ through fellowship with each other, in prayer, and through serving others. Sheila has completed the Spring Hill College Lay Ecclesial Ministry Certificate Program and is a Master Catechist.
Therese and her family came to Transfiguration in 2006. She graduated from the College of Saint Rose, Albany, New York. After working for private sector companies and as a consultant as a graphic and web designer, Therese changed roles to become a full time a mother of three and household manager. Therese has been an active volunteer at Transfiguration; assisting with organizing VBS, supporting the M4 Tour, a catechist teaching during the week, and an active member & leader of the Women in Faith group. Therese loves learning and sharing her faith and encouraging people to get involved.
A wife and mom to one daughter- she became a member of Transfiguration only a few years ago. But, she said "as soon as I walked in the door I was home. And it's been home ever since."
Amy has a background in hospitality, writing and in-service which has led her to become involved in several ministries here at Transfiguration. She works with Women in Faith, Catholic Social Teaching, Perpetual Adoration and now, Care for Creation. She enjoys spending time with family, music, and podcasts, reading, making rosaries, creating art, saving the planet, red wine, tacos, and hiking.
Many of you may remember Melisa from her leadership in high school in ChrisTeen and her continued involvement as a young adult. Melisa is a graduate of UGA. Back in her Etowah days, Melisa was in Peer Ministry, facilitated retreats and attended mission trips. Melisa has been on leadership for the Awakening Retreat for young adults in the Archdiocese of Atlanta and served as an intern for The Boys and Girls Club in Athens, and the Lupus Foundation. She is committed to living her Catholic faith everyday. She is a phenomenally talented and compassionate young woman with a servant heart and passion for Youth Ministry. Melisa will coordinate Peer Ministry, retreats, NCYC planning and Mission Trips.
Theresa and her family moved from North Carolina in summer 2012. In her previous parish, Theresa was a catechist for 8 years, led a Women’s Bible Study and served on the Food Pantry Board and Pastoral Council. Since arriving at Transfiguration, Theresa has been a catechist, helped to pilot the RUACH program this year. She served on Youth Ministry Board member advising Jr. High Peer Ministry; as well as helping with High School events and retreats.Theresa has a passion for our faith and making it relevant and alive for the young Church.
Lynn has been a member of Transfiguration for over 30 years. She is a Master Catechist and has a certificate in Pastoral Ministry. Lynn previously worked as Monsignor Bishop's administrative assistant and is also a former director of the preschool and elementary religious education programs at Transfiguration.
Lynn is married to Joe Southall and together they have six grown children, 22 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
Karen has over twenty-six years of service in higher education at both public and private institutions. She finished her professional development career as Assistant Vice President for Advancement at Kennesaw State University after completing a $75 million Comprehensive Capital Campaign.
Karen is the author of a children’s book series. She owns her own publishing company called Little Blue Pumpkin Publishing, Inc.
She is married and has a son who attends UGA.
Midge is originally from Rhode Island and has worked as an office manager for many years. Most recently, she has been a volunteer in the PREP Office.
She is the proud grandma to 6 grandchildren; two who live locally and are registered in PREP. She loves gardening, reading and exploring new areas. She has recently taken classes in chair caning, lead-glass, western history and currently taking a forest bathing class.
Penny has been a member of Transfiguration since 1992. She has 3 children. She was the founding president of Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She is involved in many ministries at Transfiguration.
Nuvia was born in Chone, Ecuador. She moved to the United States in 1991. She met her husband in New Jersey where they lived for 18 years and had 3 children. They moved to Georgia in 2009 and became active family members and volunteers in Transfiguration.
