What an exciting time in the life of your family! We are looking forward to working together to prepare your child to receive their sacraments!

First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are generally received in the 2nd grade. Students must have successfully completed 1st grade Religious Education and be actively participating in 2nd grade Religious Education. For older students, two consecutive years of Religious Education participation are required.

Parents are required to attend two meetings (one for each Sacrament) with their student.

Students are required to complete two home study books and attend two Saturday morning retreats (one for each Sacrament). Children will be interviewed to assess their readiness for receiving First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

There is a First Reconciliation preparation fee of $30 and a First Eucharist preparation fee of $30 ($60 for both Sacraments) to cover the additional costs (workbooks, activity supplies, certificates, refreshments, etc). This is in addition to the regular Religious Education registration fee.

Important Dates:

The mandatory First Reconciliation meeting beginning in church are either 
Friday, November 4, 7:00-9:00 p.m OR Friday, November 11, 7:00-9:00 p.m. 
One parent must attend with his/her child, but both parents are welcome. An RSVP is required. Nursery will be available if reservations are made at least 5 days in advance, 770-977-1442, ext. 145. 

Dates for the following events:

  • First Reconciliation student retreat: January 21, 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

  • First Reconciliation Communal Penance Service: February 3, 7:00 p.m or February 4, 10:00 a.m.

  • Mandatory First Eucharist Parent meeting: Thursday, February 9 or 16, 7:30 p.m. 

  • First Eucharist student retreat: Saturday, April 14 or April 21, 9:30 a.m—1:00 p.m. 

  • First Eucharist Masses will be celebrated on May 5 and 12, at 1:00 p.m. There will be a reception in Bishop Hall immediately following the ceremony. (Rehearsal is May 3 and 10, 6:00-8:00 p.m.) When classes begin, dates for First Eucharist will be provided.

First Eucharist Parent Meeting, Choose either Thursday, February 9 or February 16, 7:30-9:00 p.m.. All meetings will be held in Bishop Hall.

First Eucharist Retreat - Students and their parents preparing to receive the Sacrament must attend the retreat on Saturday, April 14 or April 21, 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Call the PREP Office to reserve your date. Space is limited to 100 children for each session.

The Sacrament of First Eucharist:
If your child attends PEEP on Monday at 4:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. or Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.:
  • Kids rehearsal and dinner will be Thursday, May 3, 2012, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., in Bishop Hall
  • Celebration Mass of First Eucharist will be Saturday, May 5, 2012, 1:00 p.m. (reception following in Bishop Hall).
If your child attends PEEP on Tuesday, at 5:45 p.m. or Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. and all students attending a Catholic school:
  • Kids rehearsal and dinner will be Thursday, May 10, 2012, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in Bishop Hall.
  • Celebration Mass of First Eucharist will be Saturday, May 12, 2012, 1:00 p.m. (reception following in Bishop Hall).

Confirmation

In the Archdiocese of Atlanta, students are Confirmed in 10th grade. Continuous enrollment in Religious Education is expected; students must have successfully completed 8th and 9th grade Religious Education and be actively participating in 10th grade Religious Education. For older students, two consecutive years of Religious Education participation are required.

Parents & Teens are required to attend a Confirmation meeting in May and September.
(This meeting is for those who will be confirmed during this school year.)

Students in the final year of preparation are required to complete a Confirmation E-Book at home and attend a weekend-long Antioch retreat. In addition, students must complete a minimum of 25 service hours over 4 years.

Service Summary Sheets (available in the ChrisTeen office or at here should be turned in to the ChrisTeen office as detailed below.

A Service Summary Sheet must be submitted at the end of 8th grade (June 30) with a minimum of 10 service hours (at least 5 through activities/ministries at Transfiguration). These hours are for service done in the 7th and 8th grade years.

A Service Summary Sheet must be submitted at the end of 9th grade (June 30) with a minimum of 10 new service hours (at least 5 through activities/ministries at Transfiguration).

A Service Summary Sheet must be submitted in the fall of 10th grade (December) with a minimum of 5 new service hours (at least 2-1/2 through activities/ministries at Transfiguration). This Service Summary Sheet is included in the Confirmation Workbook.

New service hours must be completed each year. Students are highly encouraged to go beyond the minimum requirements, but extra hours do not count towards the next year’s service. Failure to meet the minimum requirements will delay the student’s Confirmation date.

Students will be interviewed to assess their readiness for receiving Confirmation. Beginning in January 2013 you will be able to clikc here to sign up for interview times.

There is a Confirmation fee of $170 to cover the additional costs (workbooks, retreats, certificates, refreshments, etc). This is in addition to the regular Religious Education registration fee.

Important Dates for 2012-2013:

The mandatory Confirmation meeting in the Church is Sunday, 
September 23, 7:30-9:00 p.m. One parent must attend with his/her student, but both parents are welcome. Confirmation E-Book, registration and retreat form, baptism certificate (if not baptized at Transfiguration) and sponsor certificate (if sponosr is not from Transfiguration) and fee are due at this meeting.

The weekend-long Antioch retreat is November 16-18, 2012 OR January 18-20, 2013.

We do not have a date for Confirmation 2013 or rehearsal yet.

2014 Confirmation Meeting will be scheduled in May.

For children 7 and older

OCIC (Order of Christian Initiation for Children)

Students 7 years old and older who have not been baptized, have not received First Eucharist, or have not been enrolled in Religious Education classes should enroll in the Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC) program. Interested individuals should contact the PREP office for additional information.
