Stitchers of Transfiguration

The Stitchers of Transfiguration (STs) ministry is a group of women who gather twice a month to do some of the things that they enjoy:  making quilts and cultivating friendships!  If you quilt or would like to learn, join us at the Family Life Center (FLC) on Saturday mornings, from 9:30-1:00.  We usually meet on the first and third Saturdays, but occasionally our schedule changes due to conflicts or holidays.  Be sure to check the bulletin or website for current meeting information.  If you have signed up as a quilter, you will receive an email from Terry Utz to notify you about each meeting and the supplies you will need for the meeting.

We try to have a mix of personal quilting projects, lessons, short technique demonstrations, and challenges.  This year we have chosen a challenging year of outreach to the needy.  We have made Angel Blankets which are designed for women who have had a miscarriage, a stillbirth, or the death of an infant.  We also distribute these through the PATH ministry in our parish to women who have had abortions.  We also have made adult bibs, baby bibs, Baptismal bibs, and turbans for women or young girls who are undergoing chemotherapy.  We have continued with our original outreach project which is to provide a quilted wallhanging to each family for whom Transfiguration builds a home through Habitat for Humanity.  Some of us also help the Ladies Auxiliary with making prayer gifts for those who are experiencing emergencies in health or other crises.  Our plans for next year include making walker pouches for the elderly and “fidget quilts” for young autistic children and for adults with Alzheimer’s disease.  Additionally, we will be making our own projects.  Early in 2016 we will be learning how to make “Zendoodle” quilts using paints and unique quilting.  Our main project for next year is for each of us to make a row-by-row quilt about Georgia.  Plans are already being made for supplies and ideas.

As a group, we have quilters who are skilled, and we have others who are literally taking their first sewing machine out of the box at our meetings.  We work on a huge variety of items, from traditional to contemporary to art quilts, with sizes ranging from wall hangings to lap quilts.  Some even make full-size quilts.  The only limitation is your own imagination.  The QTs bring their unique talents and personalities to our meetings, and there is always something new to anticipate.  Give us a try—you won’t be disappointed!
