To speak the Word of God with our hands for those who hear with their eyes.
The Deaf Ministry at Transfiguration has as its mission the support and encouragement of Deaf Catholics in their faith lives. Our programs and services assist members of the Deaf community in sharing their gifts. We encourage leadership by the Deaf within the Catholic community and beyond. At the basis of our ministry is a deep respect for the language of the Deaf and their Culture.

Interpreted Mass Schedule
Sunday 10:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m.
We have a reserved area for the deaf and their families near the choir; however, seats are given up at the end of the processional song. Our volunteer interpreters are parishioners.
Deaf Mass
Quarterly, we celebrate a Mass in sign language with voice interpretation. Mass is held in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at 6:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:
September - Third Saturday of the month
December - Second Saturday of the month
March - Second Saturday of the month
June - Please join us at the Archdiocese of Atlanta Eucharistic Congress Deaf Track
Parishioner Christine Eckel is the coordinator for the Mass. Afterwards, we continue our family celebration with a potluck dinner social.
Deaf Social
Transfiguration Deaf Ministry hosts a potluck dinner social on the second Saturday of every month (third Saturday in September). Each social has a different theme and our menu is planned accordingly. We gather in the Adult Education Room after the 5:00 p.m Mass. Everyone is welcome regardless of their sign language skills. There are always many people who can interpret for you if needed. If you would like to receive our monthly EVITES to the social, please email us at tfig.deaf.ministry@gmail.com. We will be happy to add your address to our invitation list.
American Sign Language Classes
The Transfiguration Deaf Ministry offers three levels of ASL instruction. Classes are free. We meet during the school year beginning the first Tuesday in September and follow the Cobb County School Calendar. Our instructors are volunteer parishioners.
- Beginner Sign Language Class
The Beginner class is offered on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in Room 106 of the Parish Life Center. This class develops basic sentence structure and vocabulary.
- Intermediate Sign Language Class
The Intermediate class is for students to continue building vocabulary skills in preparation for the Advanced class. In addition, a focus is given to interpreting parts of the Mass. This class also meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in Room 105 of the Parish Life Center.
- Advanced Sign Language Class
The Advanced class meets on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. in the Bethelem Room of the Family Life Center. This class is offered for students of sign language who have developed sentence structure skills and an advanced sign vocabulary.
Study materials may be purchased, at the student’s discretion, at local bookstores. Students are welcome to join a class at anytime during the year, however, registration is requested. Please contact Kathy Daykin,TransfigurationDeafMinistry@gmail.com for more information and to register.
