Joyce and her family came to us from New Jersey where she was Director of Religious Education at St. Mark's Church in Long Valley, NJ. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Trenton State and an M.Ed. from the University of Delaware in College Counseling and Staff Personnel Administration. Joyce became Director of Youth Ministry in August 1996.

Sheila has been a member of Transfiguration since her childhood, and is a ChrisTeen alum. She became the Director of PEEP in the Spring of 2012.  Prior to that, Sheila held the position of Youth Ministry Coordinator. Before joining the staff, she was a volunteer for ChrisTeen and served as the Chair of the Youth Ministry Board. Sheila believes firmly that the youth are the Church of today, not of tomorrow. She strives to provide ample opportunities for the youth of the parish to encounter Christ through fellowship with each other, in prayer, and through serving others. Sheila has completed the Spring Hill College Lay Ecclesial Ministry Certificate Program and is a Master Catechist.

Bev and family came to Transfiguration parish 20 years ago.  She taught in the public school system for 23 years.  Religious Education has been an integral part of her life since she was 16 years old.  She has been a Master Catechist in the states of Wisconsin, Kentucky, and now in Georgia.  Bev is now taking classes with Springhill College completing her Masters in Pastoral Theology.  Adult Education is a new adventure!

Kate joined the Adult Education team in November 2015. A lifelong learner and passionate Catholic, one of her greatest joys is to walk awhile with others on their journey of faith to support and encourage them. She brings with her experience from her early career in public relations as well as ministry work leading marriage enrichment, retreats, faith companioning, and working with women in crisis pregnancies. She is an Advanced Catechist and also teaches a 3-year-old preschool class at Holy Family. She is happily married with two delightfully energetic sons, 11 and 9 years.

Many of you may remember Melisa from her leadership in high school in ChrisTeen and her continued involvement as a young adult. Melisa is a graduate of UGA.  Back in her Etowah days,  Melisa was in Peer Ministry, facilitated retreats and attended mission trips. Melisa has been on leadership for the Awakening Retreat for young adults in the Archdiocese of Atlanta and served as an  intern for The Boys and Girls Club in Athens, and the Lupus Foundation. She is committed to living her Catholic faith everyday. She is a phenomenally talented and compassionate young woman with a servant heart and passion for Youth Ministry. Melisa will coordinate Peer Ministry, retreats, NCYC planning and Mission Trips.

Theresa and her family moved from North Carolina in summer 2012. In her previous parish, Theresa was a catechist for 8 years, led a Women’s Bible Study and served on the Food Pantry Board and Pastoral Council. Since arriving at Transfiguration, Theresa has been a catechist, helped to pilot the RUACH program this year. She served on Youth Ministry Board member advising Jr. High Peer Ministry; as well as helping with High School events and retreats.

Theresa has a passion for our faith and making it relevant and alive for the young Church.

 Julian is our new Sunday morning preschool and kindergarten coordinator. Her degree is in Early Childhood Education and she has been teaching kindergarten.

             Julian beams when she talks about the preschool kids and is so excited to develop curriculum to help them know Jesus and learn about being Catholic.

Karen has over twenty-six years of service in higher education at both public and private institutions. She finished her professional development career as Assistant Vice President for Advancement at Kennesaw State University after completing a $75 million Comprehensive Capital Campaign. 

Karen is the author of a children’s book series. She owns her own publishing company called Little Blue Pumpkin Publishing, Inc.

She is married and has a son who attends Blessed Trinity.

 Lynn Sterling moved to Georgia in 2009 with her husband, Greg and their two children. They immediately fell in love with Transfiguration, and became members. Lynn volunteered in the PREP Office and taught Religious Ed classes. She has a B.A. in Psychology from LeMoyne College and a M.A. in Counseling from Rider University.

Penny has been a member of Transfiguration since 1992. She has 3 children. She was the founding president of Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She is involved in many ministries at Transfiguration.

Gloria was born in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and attended an all girls Catholic school. She moved to the United States in 1992, after marrying her husband, Esteban. They joined Transfiguration in 1998 when the Spanish Ministry began. Gloria is an active volunteer in Hispanic Ministry and she and her husband have been integrally involved in Marriage Encounter for 6 years. Her family loves the Braves! Gloria joined the staff in October 2009. Stop by the PREP desk to meet Gloria and say, “Hi” or “Hola!”
